Jaipur. In a major action, Rajasthan Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested the most wanted drug smuggler Pappulal alias Pappu, who was absconding for six years, from Celebration Mall in Udaipur.
A total reward of Rs 65 thousand was announced on the accused by Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Nagaur and Neemuch police of Madhya Pradesh.
More than 16 cases of serious crimes including NDPS Act, Arms Act, firing on police team and assault are registered against the accused in various police stations of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
According to ANTF Inspector General Vikas Kumar, the accused used to constantly change locations to escape from the police. He did not use mobile phone and did not even travel by private vehicle.
Ordinary passengers used buses to go from one place to another. During this time, the police got information about his being in Udaipur. The team kept surveillance and caught him while shopping at Celebration Mall.
33-year-old Pappulal is a resident of Handipura in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh. After studying till 12th, he started farming, but soon got involved in opium and sawdust smuggling.
In the year 2018, the first case of trafficking was registered against him in Singoli police station of Madhya Pradesh. In this he remained in jail for about a year. After coming out of jail, he further strengthened the drug trafficking network.
In April 2021, during the blockade in Kotri and Rayala police station areas of Bhilwara district, the accused had fired indiscriminately on the police team. Police constables Omkar Raika and Pawan Chaudhary were martyred in the firing. Since then Pappulal was continuously absconding.
According to the police, the accused used to collect drugs by luring the opium producing farmers of Madhya Pradesh and used to deliver consignments of doda and sawdust to the smugglers of Jodhpur, Barmer and Phalodi of Marwar region.
He had acquired property worth crores of rupees from this illegal business. In the year 2022, the Central Narcotics Bureau, Kota took action and demolished his illegal properties.
Serious cases are registered against Pappulal in Kotri of Bhilwara, Begun of Chittorgarh, Bilara of Jodhpur, Lohawat of Phalodi, Rajiyasar of Sriganganagar and Ratangarh and Javad police stations of Madhya Pradesh, besides CNB Kota.
ANTF is thoroughly interrogating the accused. During the interrogation, important revelations are likely to be made regarding the big drug trafficking network to Marwar and Madhya Pradesh.
