The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the revised schedule for the first round of NEET UG Counselling 2026. According to the new schedule, the Round 1 seat allotment result will be declared on August 19, 2026. Candidates will be able to view their results by visiting the official website, mcc.nic.in. Let us look at the deadline for choice locking, the reporting process, the 'freeze-float' options, and the new MCC rules.
**Complete Choice Locking by August 17**
The MCC has clarified that candidates can lock their choices until 6:00 PM on August 17, 2026. Students who have not yet selected their preferred medical colleges and courses must complete this process within the stipulated time.
It is worth noting that the NEET UG 2026 counselling process began on August 5, 2026. To participate in the counselling, candidates are required to register online and pay the prescribed fee. According to the MCC, only those candidates who have paid the fee on time will be eligible to participate in subsequent rounds of counselling.
**How to Fill and Lock Choices?**
During counselling, candidates must select their preferred medical colleges and courses. After filling in all the options, it is mandatory to save and lock them. Failure to lock choices within the designated timeframe could lead to complications.
**What Happens After Seat Allotment?**
The MCC will allot seats based on the candidates' merit and the preferences they have submitted. Following the release of the seat allotment result on August 19, candidates must report to their allotted college between August 20 and August 25, 2026.
**What to Do If No Seat Is Allotted?**
If a student does not secure a seat in the first round, they will be eligible to participate in the next round of counselling. Meanwhile, those who are allotted a seat will have the option to either 'Freeze' or 'Float' the seat, depending on their strategy. According to the new MCC rules, candidates opting for upgradation will not be required to report physically, a move expected to bring significant relief to students.
