Colonel Rajneesh Joshi, who hails from Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, has once again brought glory to Devbhoomi with his achievement. He conquered Europe's highest peak Mount Elbrus and displayed the symbol of Uttarakhand there. Before this, he had hoisted the tricolor on many difficult peaks including Mount Everest.
The list of Colonel Joshi's achievements is quite long. He has also conquered high peaks like Mount Nun, Mount Kun, Abi Gamin, Domekhang and Mount Kilimanjaro. In the year 2025, he became the first serving Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) to climb Everest. In the army, he is an officer of Garhwal Rifles and has also commanded the battalion on LoC. Not only this, he is also active in skiing, trekking, skydiving, car rally, photography and writing.
Who is Colonel Rajneesh Joshi?
Colonel Rajneesh Joshi comes from Bungachina village of Pithoragarh border district of Uttarakhand. He underwent training at the Officer's Training Academy, Chennai and was commissioned into 13 Garhwal Rifles in March 2005. During his long career in the Army, he has performed responsibilities in very challenging areas. He also commanded a battalion on the Line of Control i.e. LoC. Apart from this, he contributed in the training of soldiers by working on many important staff and training responsibilities.

Mountaineering is the most special feature of Colonel Joshi's career. He has successfully climbed many high peaks in India and abroad. These include difficult peaks like Mount Everest, Mount Nun, Mount Kun, Abi Gamin, Domekhang and Mount Kilimanjaro. In the year 2025, he achieved the feat of becoming the first serving Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) to conquer Mount Everest. Now climbing Mount Elbrus has become another big achievement in his mountaineering journey. His mountaineering exploits have also found a place in the World Book of Records, Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

Colonel Rajneesh Joshi is currently serving as the Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. He is the 16th Principal of the institute. Colonel Joshi has received training in Mountaineering and Skiing courses from India, Nepal and France. He has also been active in skiing and has participated in the National Winter Games. Apart from India, he has also gained skiing experience in France. The scope of his adventure is not limited to mountains only. He has also participated in activities like trekking, car rally and skydiving.
Talent is visible behind the camera too
Colonel Joshi is also known as a photographer and writer. He is associated with the Photographic Society of India and his photographs have been displayed in many prestigious exhibitions in the country and abroad. In the year 2023, he also wrote a book named 'Jatti Valley: A Utopia of Blossoms'. This book shows his love for nature and hilly areas.
