Jan Suraj Party chief Prashant Kishore took oath as Bankipur MLA in Bihar Assembly on August 17. After taking oath, he said that he had chosen Bankipur as a strategy, so that the message of voting could be given by rising above caste and religion in the politics of Bihar.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore took membership of Bihar Assembly on Monday. During this, Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar was also present. Talking to reporters after taking oath, Kishore described becoming a member of the House as a pride and a big responsibility for himself.
He said that many big leaders like Krishna Sinha, Karpoori Thakur, Anugrah Narayan Sinha, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan and Sushil Kumar Modi have served the public in this House. It is an honor for him to be a part of such a House.
'Bankipur was chosen deliberately'
Prashant Kishore said that he had not searched for any reserved seat. He had deliberately decided to contest elections from Bankipur assembly constituency. His objective was to give a message to the people of Bihar that one can vote in elections irrespective of caste and religion.
The victory from Bankipur is the first election victory of Prashant Kishore after the formation of Jan Suraj Party. Earlier, in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, Jan Suraj Party was not successful in winning even a single seat.
Victory in BJP's stronghold
Bankipur assembly seat has been considered a strong stronghold of BJP for a long time. BJP had this seat since 1995. In the by-election, Prashant Kishore defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes.
Prashant Kishore got a total of 64,151 votes, while Neeraj Kumar got 44,827 votes. According to the Election Commission, 34.24 percent voting took place in the Bankipur by-election.
Actually, Bankipur assembly seat had become vacant after BJP state president Nitin Nabin was elected to Rajya Sabha. After this a by-election was held here.
After the election results came, Prashant Kishore had said that the people of Bankipur have expressed confidence in him and he will try to strongly raise the voice of the rights of the people of the area.
