New Delhi, August 17 (IANS). It has now become easier for Indian people living in Qatar to send money to the country. Qatar Post has launched a remittance service powered by UPI, allowing direct transfer of money to eligible bank accounts in India.
Qatar-India remittance service based on UPI powered post transfer is available. Through this, customers in Qatar can send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India through Qatar Post outlets. The service has been developed in collaboration with Qatar Post, India Post, Universal Postal Union's Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP) and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).
The initiative combines the wide reach of the postal network with India's digital public infrastructure to provide an efficient and convenient medium for cross-border remittances. The service was launched in Qatar on 15 August 2026, coinciding with India's Independence Day. On this occasion, Acting Ambassador of the Embassy of India in Qatar, Sandeep Kumar visited the Qatar Post outlet located at Lulu Mall, Doha and interacted with the stakeholders. The event highlighted the importance of this initiative in strengthening digital financial connectivity and bilateral cooperation between India and Qatar.
Under this service, customers can initiate remittance by visiting any Qatar Post outlet. For this, they will have to provide the UPI ID of the recipient in India and necessary identification details. The recipient will also have to activate the facility to receive remittances from abroad through his UPI app.
Once activated, the amount sent will be immediately credited to the beneficiary's UPI-enabled bank account. Transactions can be made for amounts ranging from Qatari Riyal QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, and the maximum limit per transaction is equal to Rs 1,00,000.
A flat service charge of QAR 15 will be applicable on each transaction. This service is especially important for the Indian community living in Qatar. It provides a reliable, accessible and affordable medium to send money to families in India. By combining the reach of the postal network with the capabilities of UPI, this initiative promotes greater financial inclusion and seamless digital financial connectivity between the two countries.
