District Hospital Yingkiong and Simong and Ramsing sub-centres of Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) have received National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. This certification of District Hospital Yingkiong is a special achievement for the state, as it has become the first district hospital in Arunachal Pradesh to achieve NQAS accreditation.
This achievement is being considered important towards improving the quality of treatment, patients' rights, infection control, cleanliness, availability of medicines and medical equipment and administrative processes in government health institutions. According to health department officials, behind this success there have been many months of hard work and coordinated efforts of doctors, nursing staff and other employees.
Yingqiong District Hospital receives NQAS certification for the first time
The NQAS certification of District Hospital Yingkiong, Upper Siang is a historic step in the public health sector of Arunachal Pradesh. Till now no district hospital in the state had been certified under this national quality standard.
NQAS certification is considered an important indicator of adherence to set quality standards in healthcare facilities. Under this, the services of hospitals and health centers are evaluated on various parameters. These include aspects such as protection of patients' rights, quality of medical services, infection prevention, hygiene, availability of medicines and equipment and records management.
Apart from this, arrangements for continuous improvement and monitoring of services in health institutions are also made a part of evaluation.
AAM sub-centres of Simong and Ramsing also certified
Two sub-centres of Ayushman Arogya Mandir along with the district hospital have also achieved NQAS certification. These include the AAM sub-centres of Simong and Ramsing.
Such centers play an important role in increasing access to primary health services in rural and remote areas. These centers are expected to further strengthen the quality of health services at the local level by getting certification as per national quality standards.
This achievement is especially significant in such a geographical area where it remains challenging for the administration to deliver health services to remote areas and remote populations.
Which standards are tested under NQAS?
National Quality Assurance Standards is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Its objective is to raise the service quality in government health institutions to a set national level and provide better health facilities to the patients.
Many aspects of a health institution are reviewed in an NQAS assessment. The institute is judged on various parameters ranging from patient rights and respect to the quality of clinical services. It also covers areas such as infection control, hygiene, availability of medicines, essential medical equipment, documentation and continuous improvement of services.
The objective of this process is not only to obtain certification but also to develop such a methodology in health institutions, so that patients can continuously get better and safer services.
Success achieved after many months of preparation
According to health department officials, continuous work was done for several months under the NQAS and LaQshya programs. Doctors, nurses and support staff of the hospital and sub-centres made improvements at various levels to meet the quality standards.
Special attention was given to documentation, hygiene, infection control and availability of health services along with improvements in methodology. As a result of the collective efforts of the team, these institutions were successful in achieving certification as per national level quality standards.

He expressed hope that this national level recognition received on Independence Day will motivate the health department employees to work with better standards in future also. Besides, efforts will continue to bring other health facilities of the district to the same level.
Public representatives and administration congratulated
Local MLA from Upper Siang and advisor to the Chief Minister, Alo Libang, congratulated the health teams for this achievement. He appreciated the commitment of the staff to improve the quality of health services.
Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang described the NQAS certification as an important achievement for Upper Siang. He urged the healthcare workers to continue their efforts to maintain the quality standards even after achieving the certification.
The Administration believes that the certification will accelerate the process of maintaining and improving the quality of service delivery in health institutions.
Rural health services can benefit
The importance of NQAS certification for AAM sub-centres like Simong and Ramsing is heightened as these institutions are important channels of primary health services for the local and rural population.
Providing services as per quality standards can increase patients' trust in government health institutions. Besides, measures like better record management, availability of medicines, cleanliness and infection control are also expected to improve the patient experience.
Challenge to improve other health institutions ahead
This achievement of Upper Siang sets a new direction for the health department of the district. After the district hospital, now there will be a challenge to develop other health centers as per the national quality standards.
According to officials, NQAS certification should be seen as a process of continuous improvement in health services rather than an end goal. Maintaining the standards of certification regularly and providing better services to patients will be the priority in the times to come.
This achievement of Upper Siang is expected to encourage other government hospitals and health centers in Arunachal Pradesh to adopt the national quality standards. This achievement is considered important in strengthening both the access and quality of health services in the inaccessible areas of the state.
