Deep Look
Fever win fourth straight game
ATLANTA — Caitlin Clark praised the Indiana Fever’s resilience after they rallied for a 95-91 overtime victory over the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.
The win was Indiana’s fourth in a row and strengthened the team’s pursuit of home-court advantage in the opening round of the WNBA playoffs.
Fever coach Stephanie White told the team afterward that the closely contested matchup resembled a postseason game.
Indiana responded to the playoff-style pressure by overcoming an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit and controlling the opening stages of overtime.
Indiana strengthens playoff position
Atlanta began Sunday only one-half game behind Indiana for fourth place in the playoff standings.
The top four teams receive home-court advantage during the first round, making the result especially important for both teams.
The victory gave Indiana additional separation from one of its closest competitors as the regular season enters a crucial stage.
Fever erase eight-point deficit
The Dream carried a 72-64 lead into the fourth quarter after controlling much of the game’s middle stages.
Indiana’s defense changed the contest during the final regulation period.
The Fever limited Atlanta to nine points in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime and creating an opportunity to complete the comeback.
Clark gave her team an overall grade of only “B-minus,” suggesting there was room for improvement despite the victory.
Clark finishes with 26 points and nine assists
Clark led Indiana with 26 points while adding nine assists.
White praised Clark’s ability to organize the offense and create opportunities for her teammates.
Clark’s passing helped Indiana produce a balanced offensive performance in which four players scored at least 18 points.
Mitchell recovers after slow first half
Kelsey Mitchell scored only five points during the first half but became an important offensive contributor after halftime.
She made a critical layup late in overtime and finished with 20 points.
The performance extended Mitchell’s streak of games with at least 20 points to 19.
White said Clark and Mitchell “were both terrific.”
Timpson takes control in overtime
Makayla Timpson delivered one of the strongest performances of her career.
She scored Indiana’s first three field goals of overtime and finished with a career-high 20 points.
Her production helped the Fever establish control during the extra period and complete their comeback.
Timpson’s scoring also demonstrated the depth of an Indiana roster that did not have to rely exclusively on Clark and Mitchell.
Boston adds another double-double
Aliyah Boston contributed 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for Indiana.
Her double-double gave the Fever a strong interior presence against an Atlanta team with significant size and rebounding ability.
Clark, Mitchell, Timpson and Boston each scored at least 18 points.
That balanced production proved decisive in a closely contested game between two teams competing for playoff positioning.
Gray leads Atlanta with 32 points
Allisha Gray led the Dream with 32 points.
Angel Reese added 15 points and 14 rebounds, recording a double-double as Atlanta challenged Indiana deep into overtime.
Clark praised the Dream’s roster and predicted that Atlanta would be a difficult postseason opponent.
Atlanta “is a team that will be scary in the playoffs. They’re great at what they do. They have a lot of different weapons,” Clark said.
Sellout crowd creates playoff atmosphere
The game attracted a sellout crowd of 17,044 at State Farm Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
The arena is also typically used for Dream home games when Clark and the Fever visit Atlanta.
The large crowd added to the playoff-style environment described by White and Clark.
The Fever’s ability to rally before a sellout road crowd provided another sign that Indiana may be prepared for the intensity of postseason basketball.
