The depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-North Odisha coasts remained over the same area and lay centered near Kolkata at 0830 hrs IST today, 17 August 2026, near 22.5°N latitude and 88.3°E longitude. It was located about 80 km west-south-west of Satkhira (Bangladesh), 160 km south-east of Bankura (West Bengal) and 180 km north-east of Balasore (Odisha).
It is very likely to move initially in north-northwest direction and then in north-west direction passing over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during the next 24 hours.
