The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new national team, seven months after Nitin Nabin became the party’s national president. The reshuffle gives prominent roles to Smriti Irani, Ram Madhav and Piyush Goyal as the BJP national office-bearers.
Smriti Irani, Ram Madhav Get Key Roles
Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been appointed as one of the BJP’s eight national general secretaries. Former national general secretary Ram Madhav has returned to the party’s top organisational structure as a national vice president.
Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also joined the general secretary team. Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia are among the other leaders named as national general secretaries.
Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer. He previously held the same position from 2010 to 2014. Anil Baluni, meanwhile, will continue as the party’s media in-charge.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the new team through a post on X.
BJP Retains Key Election Strategists
The BJP national office-bearers list retains Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal as national general secretaries. Both leaders have played important roles in the party’s election strategy across several states.
The appointments assume significance with several assembly elections ahead, including Uttar Pradesh. Bansal has handled key organisational responsibilities in West Bengal, while Tawde has worked on Kerala and Bihar elections.
The BJP has also appointed several national vice presidents and secretaries as part of the wider organisational reshuffle.
Several Leaders Dropped From New Team
The new BJP national office-bearers list excludes senior leaders Arun Singh and Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, both Rajya Sabha MPs who previously served as national general secretaries.
Dushyant Gautam, a prominent Dalit leader and former general secretary, has also been dropped. Tarun Chugh has instead been given responsibility for poll-bound Punjab.
Three-term Bulandshahr MP Bhola Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar are among the leaders appointed national secretaries.
The reshuffle gives the BJP national office-bearers team a mix of experienced leaders and newer organisational faces as the party prepares for upcoming elections.
