Here is an important update for candidates participating in the NEET UG 2026 counseling. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has released the revised schedule for the first round of counseling. According to this, the seat allotment result for Round 1 will be declared on August 19, 2026. Candidates can lock their choices of colleges and courses until 6 PM on August 17. After securing a seat, candidates must report to the college within the stipulated timeframe. Additionally, the MCC has modified the reporting rules for candidates opting for a seat upgrade.

**Mandatory to lock choices by August 17**
The MCC commenced the NEET UG 2026 counseling process on August 5. To participate, candidates must complete online registration and pay the prescribed counseling fee; only those who have paid the fee can proceed with the subsequent stages of the process.

During counseling, candidates can select their preferred medical colleges and courses. Choices must be entered in order of preference. After entering all options, it is essential to save and lock them within the given deadline. Candidates should thoroughly review their choices before locking them, as changes are generally not permitted once the choices are locked.

**Seat allotment result on August 19**
The MCC will allocate seats based on the candidates' merit and the preferences they have submitted. As per the revised schedule, the Round 1 seat allotment result will be released on August 19. Candidates who are allotted a seat must report to the respective institute between August 20 and August 25, 2026.

If a candidate does not secure a seat in the first round, they may participate in the subsequent round of counseling. Candidates who are allotted a seat will have the options to 'Freeze' or 'Float'. Choosing 'Freeze' implies accepting the currently allotted seat without the possibility of further upgradation. Conversely, choosing 'Float' keeps the possibility open for securing a better seat in the next round.

According to the new MCC rule, candidates opting for seat upgradation will not be required to report physically.
