India face their toughest challenge of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 so far when they take on England in a crucial Pool D encounter in Amstelveen on Monday.
The Indian men’s team opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Wales, with captain Harmanpreet Singh scoring twice from penalty corners and Sanjay finding the net once. England also started strongly, defeating Pakistan 4-1 in their opening game.
With both teams entering the contest on the back of wins, the clash could prove crucial in determining the top two spots in Pool D. India’s last World Cup victory over England came in 1994, adding another layer to an important encounter for Craig Fulton’s side.
India will look to improve their attacking efficiency after relying heavily on penalty corners against Wales, while England’s pace and quality in transition will test the Indian defence.
