New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a fresh attack on the Center over the UGC-NET retest decision, questioning whether the examination papers were leaked and demanding accountability from the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Gandhi's remarks came after the NTA announced that three UGC-NET June 2026 papers: English, Commerce and Sociology would be conducted again due to errors and complaints regarding the question papers.
Rahul Gandhi Targets NTA Over Retest Decision
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi accused the NTA and the government of putting the burden of mistakes on students.
He said thousands of candidates who spent years preparing for the exam, paid fees and traveled to examination centers would now have to appear again for the test.
Gandhi alleged that students are suffering because of failures in the examination system and demanded answers from the government.
'Were Papers Leaked?' Rahul Gandhi Raises Question
The Congress leader questioned whether the UGC-NET papers were leaked before the examination and accused the NTA of avoiding responsibility.
He said there must be accountability for repeated examination- issues and called for action against the agency's leadership.
Retest Scheduled for September
The NTA has announced fresh examinations for the affected subjects in September.
The UGC-NET English and Commerce papers will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper is scheduled for September 10.
The original UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and June 30 across 87 subjects for determining eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, assistant professor positions and PhD admissions.
Political Row Over Exam System Continues
The Congress has repeatedly criticized the government over exam- controversies, including earlier allegations surrounding recruitment and entrance examinations.
Rahul Gandhi said the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was only a first step and demanded wider accountability over the functioning of the NTA.
The issue is likely to remain a major political flashpoint as thousands of students prepare for the upcoming retest.
