A very important and useful news has come to light for government employees. The Sikkim government has made a spectacular announcement of increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for the government employees and pensioners of the state.
State Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced a direct increase of 2 percent in the DA of the employees. The direct benefit of this big decision of the government will be considered effective for the employees from January 1, 2026. This means that the employees will not only get the increased DA, but they will also be given the outstanding arrears of the previous months. During the program in Gangtok, the Chief Minister said that the arrears of all the employees will be paid before 'Dashain 2026' (Dussehra). It is believed that this arrears will be transferred to the employees' accounts along with the September salary. This year the holy festival of Dashain will be celebrated in Sikkim from 11 to 21 October.
DA of central employees reached 60 percent
Let us tell you that the Central Government changes the dearness allowance of its employees and pensioners twice a year, i.e. in the months of January and July. In January 2026, the DA of central employees was increased by 2 percent, after which their DA increased from 58 percent to 60 percent. However, the DA increase for July 2026 is yet to be officially announced. It is expected that the Central Government can make a big announcement of DA for July around Diwali.
DA increased in other states of the country also
Not only Sikkim, but employees in many other parts and departments of the country have also got the gift of DA increase. Recently, DA and DR of railway employees have been increased by 2 percent. Apart from this, many state governments have also increased the DA of their employees. The West Bengal government has increased the DA of its employees by a huge 20 percent, while the governments of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have also announced a 2-2 percent increase in the dearness allowance of their employees.
