Manchester United are going through a dreadful transfer window under Jason Wilcox and his team.

With less than a week to go before the new Premier League season starts, United have completed only two major signings: Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Wilcox, who serves as the club’s director of football, is already in a challenging position, and the situation could yet become more worrying behind the scenes.

Last year, Manchester United brought in Christopher Vivell as director of recruitment. The former Chelsea official reports directly to Wilcox.

Vivell has been a key figure in United’s transfer activity and spearheaded the pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. He also had an important hand in the Red Devils’ move for Andrey Santos, having originally taken the Brazilian to Chelsea during his spell in London.

However, the former RB Leipzig figure could now be set for a return to Germany.

According to Absolut Bayern, via German publication Tz, Bayern Munich’s hierarchy are close to parting ways with chief scout Nils Schmadtke.

It is believed Vivell is one of the candidates being considered by the Bundesliga champions as a replacement for Schmadtke. His current contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2027.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund knows the 39-year-old very well from their time together in Austria. “The two have a high regard for each other both personally and professionally,” the report states.

Interestingly, Bayern are also said to admire Sesko, who joined United from Leipzig last summer.

The Slovenian had been on the Bavarian club’s radar even before his move to the Red Devils, with Bayern viewing him as a possible long-term successor to Harry Kane.

The prospect of signing a striker such as Sesko still appeals in Munich, but after his encouraging debut season in England, United are unlikely to entertain any talks over the forward leaving.
