The long-awaited whispers of a sequel to Zoya Akhtar's cult classic, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD), have finally been addressed by the filmmaker herself. In a significant update that will undoubtedly send ripples of excitement through Bollywood, Akhtar has confirmed that work on ZNMD 2 is indeed underway, albeit in its early stages.
Zoya Akhtar Confirms Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2
Speaking exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter India at the recent Monsoon Film Festival, Zoya Akhtar revealed that she and her longtime collaborator, Reema Kagti, are actively developing the script for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2. “We are on it,” Akhtar stated, providing the clearest indication yet that the beloved trio of Arjun, Kabir, and Imran might soon embark on another journey. However, Akhtar was quick to temper expectations, emphasising that the project is still in its nascent phases and will only move forward if the story feels authentic and meaningful. "We don't know what will happen and what won't... if we will get to a place it feels correct, in catching up with these characters today," she explained. The director highlighted the primary creative challenge as figuring out how the lives of Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol's characters would have evolved more than a decade after their memorable Spanish escapade. Anticipation for a sequel reached fever pitch in 2025 when Roshan, Akhtar, and Deol reunited for a commercial promoting Yas Island. The advertisement heavily referenced the original film's camaraderie, leading many fans to mistakenly believe it was a teaser for ZNMD 2. Akhtar humorously recalled the fan frenzy, noting that "People thought it was a trailer" when it was revealed not to be a sequel.More About ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’
