A huge crocodile was captured on camera during drone mapping of water level and depth in Govindgarh pond of Rewa. Villagers claim that more than 1000 crocodiles are present in the pond, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Reva: While surveying the water level and depth in the historical Govindgarh pond, a huge crocodile was seen in the drone camera. After the footage of a crocodile floating on the water surface surfaced, the discussion among the local people intensified. Villagers have long claimed to have a large number of crocodiles in the pond, although the number of crocodiles, more than 1000, has not been officially confirmed yet.

The drone was being flown over the water to gather information about the waterlogged area and depth of Govindgarh pond. Meanwhile, movement was seen on the surface of the water. On looking at the camera footage, a crocodile several feet long was seen swimming.
This incident of seeing crocodile in the pond is not new to the local people. Villagers living nearby say that crocodiles have been seen here for a long time. However, since one crocodile is visible in the drone footage, the total number of crocodiles present in the pond cannot be determined.
Villagers claim, more than 1000 crocodiles in the pond
Local villagers claim that more than 1000 crocodiles may be present in Govindgarh pond. He says that the area of the pond is very large and due to dense water hyacinth in many parts, crocodiles are not easily visible.
According to the villagers, sometimes crocodiles are seen coming to the banks of the pond and sunbathing. Because of this, people living in the surrounding areas have to be careful while going to the banks of the pond.
Although the number reported by villagers is quite large, there is no independent or official confirmation of the number of crocodiles exceeding 1000 based on available information. For this, a detailed survey will be required by the Forest Department or experts.
Historical importance of Govindgarh
Govindgarh Pond is not important only because of the presence of aquatic organisms. It is also to the history of Rewa state. Govindgarh was once known as the summer capital of the princely state of Rewa.
In the 19th century, during the reign of the Maharajas of Rewa, the pond and Govindgarh Palace were developed here. Due to its natural beauty along with historical heritage, this area has long been a center of attraction for people and tourists.
