New ray of hope amidst devastation

A massive earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurred in the East Nusa Tenggara area of Indonesia, creating an atmosphere of devastation and panic everywhere. So far, more than 54 people have died in this devastating earthquake and many buildings have been razed to the ground.
Due to fear of aftershocks, people are reluctant to go into their homes and are forced to take shelter in tents pitched in open fields. Amidst the crisis of basic facilities and clean water, health workers are continuously busy treating the injured.

Sanjeevani given by keeping it in a tent

The weight of the girl was 1.3 kg. The condition of the newborn was critical due to being born almost two months prematurely. The hospital did not have modern facilities like ventilators, and staying inside the main building after the earthquake was not without danger. In such a situation, the doctors took a decision, kept the girl in an incubator and sent her to a safe relief tent set up outside the hospital premises. Maria also suffered serious bleeding problems after delivery, but doctors treated her and stabilized her condition. In this whole scene, Maria expressed her gratitude to the doctors and said that their faith and courage gave her courage. In this terrible environment of devastation, the birth of little ‘Jempita’ has emerged as a new ray of life and hope for everyone.

Miracle of doctors amid earthquake

Maria Florida Ngo Kelen, 39, a resident of Ngekeo area, very close to the epicenter of the earthquake, already had a lot of complications in her pregnancy. His health condition suddenly started deteriorating during the earthquake. According to doctors, if Maria’s delivery was delayed even slightly, she was at serious risk of having a life-threatening seizure, which could have resulted in the death of both mother and child. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Dr. Yona Sara Pardede and her team took a bold decision to perform the operation (cesarean delivery) immediately, without caring for their own lives. The hospital premises were constantly shaking and there were frequent power cuts, but the doctors did not give up and continued the surgery with the help of torch and mobile light and successfully completed the delivery.
