Alert of torrential rain in many states including Delhi NCR, Jharkhand, MP from 18 to 21 August

New Delhi: The effect of the weather system formed in the Bay of Bengal is now visible in many states. According to the Meteorological Department, the low pressure area has reached over Jharkhand and the northern parts of Gangetic West Bengal. Due to its effect, there may be heavy rain in many areas of the country during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Where can it rain?

However, some improvement in the weather is expected in Kolkata and surrounding areas. Earlier, continuous rain had affected the pace of the city. Despite this, there is a danger of heavy rain in many districts of West Bengal. According to IMD, there may be heavy rain in Purulia, Bankura, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Jhargram and West Medinipur till Wednesday morning.

Heavy rain alert in many states

The Meteorological Department has predicted extremely heavy rain in parts of north-eastern Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand on August 18. At the same time, south-eastern Uttar Pradesh may see a period of heavy rain on 18th and 19th August. Apart from this, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in Odisha and Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rains may continue in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in the coming days.

Disaster has already fallen in many states

Heavy rain has been recorded in many parts of the country in the last 24 hours. Some areas of Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha received 21 cm or more rainfall. Whereas in Chhattisgarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, very heavy rainfall ranging from 12 to 20 cm was recorded.

High waves will rise in the sea

The Meteorological Department has warned of rough sea conditions in North Bay of Bengal and coastal areas of West Bengal-Bangladesh, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh. By the morning of August 19, winds may blow at a speed of 40-50 kmph, while the speed is likely to reach 60 kmph during gusts. Fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea during this period.

How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR?

There is a possibility of cloudy sky in Delhi-NCR from 18th to 21st August. Light rain may occur in the afternoon or evening, while moderate rain is expected in some areas on August 19 and 20. During this period the maximum temperature can remain between 32 to 36 degrees Celsius.
