Birbhum, Read Bureau. A massive fire broke out in a four-storey hotel located near the Tarapith temple in Birbhum district of West Bengal in the early hours of Monday. Seven people died in the accident, while many others are said to be injured. Most of the people staying in the hotel were sleeping at the time of the incident.
It is being told that the fire started from the ground floor of the hotel at around five in the morning. As soon as the information was received, several fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and after much effort the fire was brought under control. The people injured in the accident have been admitted to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Initially, information about the death of five people was given by the hospital. Police later confirmed that the death toll had increased to seven. According to a senior police officer, so far seven people have lost their lives in the accident.
The hotel management has claimed that the cause of the fire was short circuit. However, the actual cause of the fire is being investigated by the police and administration. According to officials, the dead also include some devotees who had come to offer prayers at the famous Kali temple of Tarapeeth.
