Former first-round pick TyTy Washington Jr. is engaged in “advanced” discussions with ASVEL Basket, according to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.com who says the French team is showing serious interest in the free agent guard.
The 29th overall pick in 2022, Washington has played for four teams in four NBA seasons, making 74 total regular season appearances for the Rockets, Bucks, Suns, and Clippers. Following his rookie year, he was traded twice during the 2023 offseason and then was waived by Oklahoma City. Since then, he has signed exclusively two-way or Exhibit 10 contracts.
Washington spent most of the 2025/26 season on a two-way deal with the Clippers after joining the team in late December. The 24-year-old logged a total of 88 minutes in 16 NBA games for L.A., playing primarily in garbage time, then became an unrestricted free agent this summer when his contract expired.
We’ve seen several instances this offseason of players who have four years of NBA service and are no longer eligible for two-way contracts making the move overseas to continue their careers.
If Washington takes that route and reaches a deal with ASVEL, he’ll have the opportunity to learn from a pair of longtime NBA point guards. The French team will be coached by former Spurs star Tony Parker and will feature 16-year NBA veteran Patty Mills.
