Ranchi, 18 August 2026: After the fierce student agitation in Jharkhand regarding various recruitment examinations of JPSC and JSSC, Chief Minister Hemant Sore has taken a big decision and announced the cancellation of JSSC-CGL examination. Besides, other examinations conducted by TDPL agency will also be canceled and orders have been given for a comprehensive investigation of all the recruitment examinations conducted since 2014. After this announcement of the government, Devendra Nath Mahato, Umme Habiba and Rahul Kranti, who were on hunger strike, have ended their fast, but a large section of students are still adamant on the agitation demanding a CBI inquiry. Despite the cancellation of the examination, there are some questions whose answers are yet to be found, due to which this controversy does not seem to be resolved yet.
What will happen to the candidates who clear JSSC-CGL?
The cancellation of the examination has caused the biggest blow to those youth who had passed this examination, completed the selection process and in some cases even got jobs. Due to the cancellation of the examination, the selected candidates have started protesting against the government's decision. The government will now have to clarify, what will happen to the previously appointed candidates? Will they have to take the exam again or will a different legal arrangement be made for their job? There is every possibility that these matters will reach the High Court.
Demand for CBI investigation still incomplete
CBI investigation was also included in the main demands of the student movement, but the government has not yet accepted this demand. At present the government has talked about investigation by CID/SIT and a comprehensive investigation of the examinations from 2014 till now. The students' argument is that if the malpractices of many private companies and agencies have come to light in the past few years, then why is this case not being investigated by an independent central agency (CBI)?
All TDPL exams cancelled, but lack of clear guidelines
The government has announced the cancellation of the examinations conducted by TDPL, in which the examination, results and selection process are cancelled. But how many exams will be cancelled? Which results will be affected? What will happen to those who have already been appointed? And when will the new exams be taken? The government has not yet published any written order or official list of examinations regarding this. Due to mere verbal advertisement, confusion prevails among the students.
Questions remain same on 11th-13th JPSC
The most sensitive matters are to 11th-13th JPSC. Students claim that TDPL also played a role in preparing the merit list of this examination. Now that the government is talking about canceling the examinations to TDPL, it is not clear what will be the final stand of the government regarding 11th-13th JPSC. However, the cancellation of 14th JPSC has already been announced.
What about relaxation in age limit?
Due to continuous delay in recruitment examinations and cancellation of paper leaked examinations, the age of the candidates is increasing, which has a direct impact on their future. For this reason, the agitators were demanding relaxation in the age limit, but no specific decision has been taken by the government in this regard. It is not enough to re-conduct the examination, but to give justice to the older candidates, it is also necessary to give relaxation in the age limit.
How big will be the scope of testing from 2014?
The Chief Minister has ordered to investigate all the recruitments since 2014. Many shocking facts have come to light in the preliminary investigation of CID and SIT, which show that these cases are not limited to JSSC-CGL only but a bigger network was at work. Now it remains to be seen how many examinations from 2014 till today come under the ambit of investigation and if irregularities are found in the old examinations, then what will happen to the earlier appointments?
