The biggest challenge before the Congress, which is preparing for the assembly elections, seems to be to manage its own house more than the opposition parties. The most serious crisis is in Punjab Congress. Before the 2027 assembly elections, the tussle over leadership between the camps of State Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has increased continuously. The Congress high command decided to keep Vading as the state president, but Channi supporters are not satisfied with this decision. In June, the high command had to send three senior leaders as observers to assess the situation and in July, Channi was made the chairman of the campaign committee and other leaders were also given place, but Channi was not satisfied with this.

Channi became a rebel

After this, the controversy came to the fore with the meeting of about 50 Congress leaders at Channi's residence and many senior leaders standing with him. Leaders like MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and MLA Pargat Singh were also included in these. Some leaders even decided to boycott the wedding programs. After this Bhupesh Baghel came to Punjab to handle the situation but the situation got worse. Channi's supporters raised slogans in his support at party programs, after which Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel had to warn of even expelling those indiscipline from the party. After this, there is a fight going on in the party between a family and a ticket. Right now everyone's eyes are fixed on Rahul Gandhi's decision.

Kharge could not handle the rebellion in Goa

The situation became more uncomfortable for the Congress in Goa when the news of resignation of more than 100 booth level agents and workers came to light just before the visit of party president Mallikarjun Kharge. According to the report, these workers cited reasons like laziness in the party and lack of clarity regarding leadership. Kharge had come to Goa to meet booth level workers and strengthen the organization, but this incident marked the beginning of his visit. A few days before this, organization general secretary KC Venugopal had also gone to Goa but he too had to face opposition.

What is the fight in Goa?

The fight in Goa Congress is over the change of leadership between Amit Patkar and Girish Chodankar. In June 2026, the Congress high command removed the current state president Amit Patkar and made Girish Chodankar again the president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee. Chodankar has been the state president before and he left the post after the defeat of Congress in the 2022 assembly elections. The decision to remove Patkar and bring back Chodankar increased resentment among a section of the party and many leaders and workers raised questions about it.

Uncomfortable in UP, Uttarakhand

Elections are also to be held in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand early next year. All the political parties are preparing for these elections but here too Congress sometimes seems to be in an uncomfortable situation. In Uttar Pradesh, the party wants to fight in alliance with Akhilesh Yadav but there is discord within the party regarding the number of seats. Many leaders are openly demanding more seats. Apart from this, everything is not going well within the Congress party in Uttarakhand also. There have been reports of many leaders being angry, but open rebellion like Punjab and Goa has not been seen here.
