The Transport Department is preparing to tighten rules for app-based passenger transport services like Ola, Uber and Rapido. New guidelines have been made for these services and the new rules will come into effect from September 1. Under the new rules, aggregator companies providing app-based passenger services will have to obtain a license from the transport authority. Additionally, drivers must have a valid driving license and badge, and must have working knowledge of the Marathi language.

**Strict rules for drivers**

When applying for the badge, drivers will be required to submit proof of 15 years of residence in Mumbai (or the city where they wish to work) and a police verification report. Under the new system, drivers will not be allowed to drive for more than 12 hours continuously. Additionally, provisions have also been made to ensure that drivers receive at least 80 percent of the total fare.

**GPS Tracking & Online Monitoring**

There will be app-based GPS tracking of vehicles. The transport department will also do verification of drivers and online monitoring of vehicles. Additionally, aggregator companies will have to provide services on their apps and websites in three languages: Marathi, Hindi and English.

**Strict action on fake documents**

Strict action will be taken against drivers who obtain licenses using fake documents. The licenses of such drivers can be canceled and legal action can also be taken against them. After the rules for taxis and auto-rickshaws, the transport department is now preparing to tighten rules for all app-based passenger vehicles including Ola, Uber and Rapido. The new rules will come into effect from September 1.
