A working reversing camera is a federal safety requirement in the United States, and Stellantis is now facing the consequences of a potential failure affecting hundreds of thousands of rearview camera systems. On Monday, August 17, the automotive group announced a fresh recall covering more than 950,000 recent-model vehicles from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram.
According to a Stellantis press release, the main problem is that defective radio software may stop the rearview camera image from appearing on the infotainment display. The recall includes 2026–2027 Chrysler Pacifica, Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid and Voyager minivans, 2026–2027 Dodge Charger models, 2026 Jeep Cherokee, Compass, Gladiator, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee / Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Wagoneer / Grand Wagoneer L vehicles, along with 2026 Ram 1500 and 2500 pickups and ProMaster and ProMaster EV vans.
Of the vehicles covered, 848,511 units are from the U.S. market, while another 82,869 vehicles in Canada and 7969 in Mexico have also been recalled. Stellantis has also included an additional 15,736 units from outside North America, taking the total to 954,885 vehicles. The company says that if the rearview camera feed does not appear, drivers should exercise extra caution and depend on their side mirrors and rearview mirror while reversing.
The remedy is fairly straightforward, and it is also becoming increasingly common today: customers will receive an over-the-air radio software update that can be selected through the vehicle’s media screen. Since the affected recall population is limited to 2026 and newer models, Stellantis is able to update every vehicle wirelessly. Most importantly, the carmaker says it is not aware of any injuries or accidents connected to this issue.
