New Delhi, August 19 (IANS). For years, the primary focus of consumers when buying a smartphone in India has been the camera, processor and design, but this is now changing. According to Flipkart and Counterpoint's Smartphone Insights Report 2026, display quality is becoming increasingly important in smartphone purchasing decisions due to increasing content consumption and heavy use of apps.
Consumers spend a large portion of the day on smartphones, including OTT streaming, mobile gaming, social media scrolling or video calls. In such a situation, along with battery life and performance, display is also becoming an important part of the total experience of the smartphone. The special thing is that the display is no longer seen as a separate feature, but as an extension of the overall performance.
About 45 percent of consumers associate the chipset with better display features, such as better color accuracy and lightning-fast touch response. This shows that the relationship between processing power and the quality of visual and interactive experiences is becoming increasingly strong.
Due to this, buyers are now paying more attention to things like resolution, refresh rate, brightness and color accuracy, rather than considering the display as a normal feature. This reflects a sea change among Indian consumers, where upgrades are becoming based on experience and not just specifications. Now performance is also being assessed on the basis of how smoothly the different hardware of the smartphone work together.
As the primary interface for gaming, streaming and everyday smartphone use, displays are now becoming an integral part of the overall performance experience.
This experience-centric shift is also visible in the evolution of the realme P series. The series is targeted at India's young and online-centric smartphone buyers who want premium looks and smooth everyday performance, but also value for money. In a market where pricing and offers can change what feels “affordable” from month to month, the realme P series emphasizes a display-centric experience that users can enjoy in everyday use, without going over the budget.
The realme P1 series proved that performance and design can be brought together without raising the price too much. The P2 series then raised the bar further with upgrades to better displays and build quality. The P3 series gained momentum globally and its shipments crossed three million units. It has gained support from a growing community that values both power and design.
Now the Realme P4 series is carrying forward that promise. It continues to focus on improved performance, practical utility and a more immersive viewing experience, so that users don't have to compromise between phone design and everyday performance. This makes it a strong choice for buyers looking for a complete, display-centric smartphone experience in this segment.
Despite broader market challenges, the Realme P series has emerged as the fastest-growing smartphone lineup on Flipkart in the first half of 2026. Taking this momentum forward, the upcoming Realme P4S 5G will be launched on August 26 on Flipkart and Realme.com. Realme is going to offer more premium viewing and gaming experience in this segment through this phone.
At the center of the phone is a 17.22 cm (6.78-inch) Samsung 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It uses Samsung Display's new M14 luminescent material technology, which is usually seen in more premium mobile phones.
This panel is designed for superior efficiency and durability. It claims to deliver 26 percent higher luminous efficiency and up to 50 percent longer screen life compared to traditional AMOLED.
It supports 1400 nits global peak brightness for better visibility in actual use, making it easy to see the screen in bright light outdoors. For HDR content, it has a local peak brightness of up to 6500 nits. This helps games and videos look more lifelike even in bright lighting conditions.
To further improve the display experience, HDR10 Plus and Netflix HDR are supported in Realme P4S 5G. This results in better contrast, finer detail and more true-to-life colors at its native 1.5K resolution. Due to these features, it can be included in the phones with better display in this segment.
Brightness and color accuracy aren't the whole story—responsiveness is equally important to gaming performance. The 144Hz refresh rate of realme P4s 5G helps ensure smooth swipes, animations and gameplay. The 3000Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate is designed to provide faster and more precise control during competitive gaming.
Inside the phone, Realme has paired its Hyper Vision Plus AI chip with MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultra. This dual-chip setup is designed to enhance the visual and motion experience while gaming.
The architecture supports AI-powered frame interpolation, resulting in smoother graphics, better effective frame rates, and more lifelike HDR visuals while gaming. Its aim is to improve clarity and fluidity in gaming with the help of AI rather than just using more power.
Keeping eye comfort in everyday use in mind, the display is TUV Rhineland Low Blue Light certified, which helps reduce exposure to harmful blue light. It also has full-brightness DC dimming, which helps reduce flicker at different brightness levels. This can be useful during long periods of streaming, social media scrolling and gaming.
Overall, the display package of the realme P4s 5G—flagship-grade panel material, high peak brightness, HDR support, high refresh rate, and eye-care certification—suggests where the Indian smartphone market is headed. Now the screen is being evaluated not only on its size but also on the basis of everyday viewing and gaming experience.
