Desk. A major accident was averted on August 15 at Munich Airport in Germany. Vietnam Airlines' Boeing 787 aircraft bound for Hanoi made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff. Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787-9 flight VN-34 ran into trouble during takeoff. Actually, the tail of the plane hit the runway, after which the plane circled over Munich for about 2 hours and then returned to the airport safely.

After the incident, the plane continued to fly over Munich at an altitude of about 9,000 feet for about 2 hours. During this time, the plane dropped fuel in the air to reduce fuel consumption, after which it returned to Munich International Airport. The aircraft also suffered damage due to tail-strike (collision of the tail part).

    Hanoi-bound flight VN-34 took off from Munich at around 1:45 pm (local time) on August 15. According to Vietnamese state media, the plane was carrying 271 passengers and 16 crew members and they are all safe. Earlier, Vietnam Airlines had said the flight had turned back due to a “technical fault”.

    A video of the flight's takeoff has surfaced on social media in which the plane is seen moving rapidly on the runway. Meanwhile, a loud sound is heard and the tail of the plane is seen hitting the runway. After this the plane rises up and a big cloud of dust is seen flying behind it.

    After the incident, the Munich Airport Administration had informed on its website that it has closed its north runway, due to which there may be some delay in air traffic. The plane took off from the south runway but landed on the north runway, which was later closed due to security reasons.
