Central employees are eagerly waiting for the implementation of the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission. Amidst this waiting environment, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has made a big announcement for government employees.

He has said that the state government aims to implement the Seventh Pay Commission within the current financial year itself. This simply means that the Seventh Pay Commission will be completely implemented in West Bengal by March 2027.

A big issue was raised in the elections, the decision was taken as soon as it came to power.

Let us tell you that during the West Bengal elections, the topic of implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission remained a big and important issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had also promised to implement the Seventh Pay Commission in the state during their election rallies and meetings. After this, when BJP came to power in May, the cabinet of the state government took immediate action and approved the formation of the Seventh State Pay Commission.

Giving information, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that the necessary terms and conditions for the Seventh Pay Commission have already been prepared. The commission will be formally constituted soon after its finalisation. “We are making every possible effort to implement the 7th Pay Commission within the current financial year itself,” he clarified. The Chief Minister further said that the government is committed to gradually reduce the gap in Dearness Allowance (DA) with the Central Government instead of making sudden major changes.

DA will be equal to that of the Centre, arrears will be received in a phased manner

The Chief Minister further said that the main objective of the government is to gradually bring the dearness allowance of the state employees at par with the central government employees. Along with this, the pending dues will also be paid in a phased manner.

The official said, “We will gradually eliminate the DA gap between central and state employees. Some of you might have expected that we will announce 42 per cent DA in one go. There were many reports on social media that we will announce a 10 per cent hike. But we have not taken any such hasty step. We have made very careful financial calculations and we will gradually reduce the gap.”

Assurance of giving the pending DA at the right time

The Chief Minister also gave a strong assurance to all the state government employees that their pending DA will be given to them at the right time. According to state government data, after the recent increase in the state budget, employees are currently getting dearness allowance at the rate of 38 percent.

It is noteworthy that the organizations of government employees in West Bengal were demanding the formation of a new pay commission and early payment of outstanding DA for a long time. After the arrival of the new government in the state, a historic decision of increasing DA by 20 percent was taken in its very first budget, due to which the total DA received by the employees increased to 38 percent.
