The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (Railway Mega Expansion) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a major decision that will give a new direction to the capacity and speed of Indian Railways. on wednesday Central government has given its approval to four important multi-tracking rail projects in West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh with a total cost of Rs 9,450 crore. The objective of these projects is not only to expand the rail network but also to accelerate the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' by reducing logistics costs.
Rail network will increase by 410 km, eight districts will get new facilities
Through these four projects Indian Railway Network A total of 410 kilometers of additional rail lines will be added. These projects will pass through eight districts, providing better rail connectivity to approximately 60 lakh people in 6,448 villages. Giving information on social media platform 'X', the Prime Minister said that this will give an unprecedented boost to railway infrastructure and connectivity.
These projects got green signal
To increase the operational efficiency of Railways, work will be done on the following projects:
- Kharagpur-Bhadrak (Ranital) 4th Line: 173 km (West Bengal and Odisha).
- Bhadrak-Haridaspur 4th Line: 75 km (Odisha).
- Gummidipoondi-Gudur 3rd and 4th line: 90 km (Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu).
- Cuttack-Paradip (Badabandha) 3rd and 4th Line: 72 km (Odisha).
Tourism and industry will get a new flight
These projects will be developed under 'PM Gatishakti National Master Plan'. Important goods like coal, iron ore, cement, steel and food grains are transported on these railway routes. The capacity expansion will enable additional freight movement of 76 million tonnes per year. Along with this, this extension will also connect major religious and tourist places like Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhitarkanika National Park and Maa Bhadrakali Temple with world-class connectivity.
Resolution of 'Green Rail' for environment
This project will prove to be a milestone from environmental point of view. Railway It is estimated that with the construction of these lines there will be a reduction in the import of oil by about 13 crore liters. With this, about 65 crore kg CO2 emissions will be reduced, which is equivalent to planting 2.60 crore new trees. This development work is targeted to be completed by 2030-31, which will create new employment opportunities and make passenger and goods transportation more smooth, safe and reliable.
