The confrontation happened on July 30 at a theater in Admiralty after Chan and her family attended a screening of Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

The incident was apparently preceded by Chan’s son accidentally kicking the seat of a woman sitting in front of him, according to The Straits Times.

Hong Kong police are treating the case as common assault and are seeking the woman involved.

The episode later drew attention online, with conflicting accounts emerging over how Chan’s children behaved during the movie.

One social media user alleged that her three sons repeatedly talked and shouted during the screening. But another person who said they sat behind the family challenged that account, saying the children did not appear disruptive.

The latter witness said that once the movie ended, Chan quickly left the auditorium in search of the woman who had been sitting in front of her family after discovering that her son had allegedly had a substance poured over his head.

Another woman reportedly gave the boy a tissue to wipe himself, while cinema employees were asked to help locate the person accused of the act.

Chan later responded to complaints about her children, saying she was sorry if their behavior had affected others and that she would remind them to be more considerate when in public, according to HK01.

“If it really happened, I need to do better myself and remind my children to be more mindful of their behavior when we are out and about,” she said.

She noted, however, that no one had approached the family during the movie to ask the children to quiet down.

“I believe it’s natural for children to get excited during thrilling scenes,” Chan said. “But if we really did disrupt other people, we’ll definitely pay more attention to our volume in the future.”

Chan, 35, also known as Chan Hoi-lam, was born in Hong Kong and raised in Canada. She won the Miss Hong Kong title in 2013 and Miss Chinese International the following year before pursuing a career as an actress and television host.

She has also built a large social media following and is married to Hong Kong actor Kevin Cheng.
