Manchester United have been heavily linked with Arsenal academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly, whose future at the Emirates appears uncertain because of the shortage of regular senior game time.

Across the past 24 months, United have taken advantage of similar circumstances to bring in Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi from Hale End.

In an interesting twist, Arsenal are now also believed to be exploring United’s academy setup as they look to bolster their youth ranks.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are preparing a double move for two Manchester United youngsters.

The Premier League champions are said to be pursuing deals for both James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye.

The Athletic has also backed the report, adding that the North London side are confident of completing transfers for the two young players.

Scanlon is a 19-year-old winger who spent the second half of last season on loan with EFL League Two club Swindon Town.

Ogunneye, meanwhile, mainly operates at right-back. He was sent on loan to Newport County, another club in England’s fourth tier, and made 21 appearances before returning to United.

The London-born 20-year-old defender has also been included in several first-team matchday squads at United.

The report further states that Arsenal have “embarked on an aggressive youth recruitment drive and are understood to be confident that deals for both players can be agreed this summer.”

Scanlon, who is a Gibraltar international, is alleged to have agreed a two-year contract with Arsenal, with the option of an additional 12 months.

Both Scanlon and Ogunneye endured somewhat underwhelming loan spells away from United and are not widely considered standout prospects with clear first-team potential. In that context, Arsenal’s interest in the pair is, at the very least, an intriguing development.

Meanwhile, United are believed to be ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Leicester City teenage midfielder Louis Page.
