Application for Lost Marksheet: If you have accidentally lost your school marksheet—perhaps during house cleaning or a move—you can obtain a duplicate copy through official procedures.
Application for Lost Marksheet: Class 10 and 12 marksheets are not merely pieces of paper; they serve as crucial proof of your education. They are required for everything from filling out job applications to securing admission to higher education. However, marksheets often get lost due to shifting houses or failing to preserve old documents properly. If this has happened to you, there is no need to panic. Central education boards and universities provide facilities to issue duplicate marksheets. Let’s look at the complete process.
File an FIR First
As soon as you realize your marksheet is lost, the first step is to visit the nearest police station and file an FIR or a Daily Diary Report. You must specify which class and year the lost marksheet belongs to. This report becomes a vital document for the subsequent application process, so be sure to keep a copy safe. Next, you need to get an affidavit prepared by a notary on a ₹10 stamp paper, stating that your marksheet is lost and you are applying for a duplicate copy; this document legally substantiates your claim.
DADS Portal for CBSE Board
If you completed your Class 10 or 12 studies under the CBSE board, the process has now become much simpler. CBSE has launched a dedicated online portal for this purpose called the Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS). For most students who passed after 2009, this portal functions even without an FIR, saving significant time and money. Students simply need to visit the portal, enter their details, upload the necessary documents, and pay the prescribed fee online.
Processing Time
Once the application and fees are submitted, the duplicate mark sheet is typically processed and dispatched within 15 to 30 working days. During this period, students can track the status of their application using the application reference number. If the mark sheet dates back to before 2009, or if you encounter issues with the online portal, you should fill out the form manually, pay the fee via Demand Draft (DD) or postal order, and send the complete set of documents to the CBSE Regional Office.
Check DigiLocker
If the mark sheet is from recent years, be sure to check the DigiLocker app or website before applying. Many boards now upload results in digital format to DigiLocker; from there, a digital copy of the mark sheet can be downloaded instantly, and in many instances, it is considered as valid as the original.
