Tottenham’s spending could cross £450m as Savinho, Omar Marmoush and Cody Gakpo moves gather pace after David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano updates

Tottenham will have to commit a huge fee to prise Savinho and Omar Marmoush away from Manchester City, and if Cody Gakpo is added as well, Spurs’ outlay this summer will surge beyond £450m.

Tottenham have already spent £237m in this transfer window on the triple arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. But if Roberto De Zerbi gets what he wants, another three-player swoop could soon follow.

De Zerbi and Tottenham are on the same page in believing the club requires a major rebuild in the final third.

As a result, Tottenham are looking to bring in new first-choice options on the left wing, right wing and at centre-forward. In effect, they want an entirely new front three.

On Wednesday evening, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Tottenham were ‘advancing’ in talks with Manchester City over a double deal for Savinho and Marmoush. Personal terms with Savinho have already been agreed.

Ornstein did not specify the fee involved for the pair, and Savinho’s valuation in particular has been widely discussed in recent weeks.

Reports throughout the summer had suggested Savinho would cost around £65m if he joined Tottenham. More recently, The Times reported that City are now asking for £85m.

In any event, a new update from talkSPORT, later supported and amplified by reliable reporter Ben Jacobs, has stated that the combined asking price for Savinho and Marmoush stands at £150m.

They explained: ‘Although any potential deal is yet to be finalised, discussions between the clubs are advancing with City prepared to sanction move for both players if the north London side are prepared to stump up around £150million.’

Whether that means Savinho would cost £85m and Marmoush £65m, or whether the two are valued equally at £75m each, makes little difference given that Spurs want to sign both players anyway.

The third name in the frame, Cody Gakpo, has also agreed personal terms with Tottenham. Liverpool value him at £70m, with the Reds using Anthony Gordon’s £69m move to Barcelona as the benchmark.

There had been suggestions that Liverpool could perform a U-turn over selling the Netherlands international after his outstanding performances in pre-season.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano remains firm in his stance that Gakpo can leave Liverpool if the Reds bring in two more wingers. The two players they are targeting both play for PSG – Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.

Romano said: “For Cody Gakpo, Tottenham remain in conversations. I know in the last 24, 48 hours, the rumours around the story are that the deal is not happening, the deal is off, the deal is not going through.

“But my understanding is that the negotiation for Cody Gakpo to Tottenham is still ongoing. Cody Gakpo is open to joining Tottenham and personal terms are not a problem.

“So the deal remains on. The deal remains underway and Cody Gakpo to Tottenham Hotspur is still absolutely on.

“Then they need to reach a financial agreement, and that’s not a detail. Remember that if Gakpo is going to Tottenham, Liverpool will sign two wingers, top target Bradley Barcola plus one.

“So it’s still a long story in a short time because now there are less than two weeks of the summer transfer window. We’ll be following the situation. These days, anything can happen.

“But what I can guarantee at this time on Tuesday is that nothing has changed yet. There is no deal off. The conversation remains ongoing and we have to follow the situation to understand what’s going to happen.”

If Spurs do complete deals for Marmoush, Savinho and Gakpo on top of Van Hecke, Fernandes and Tonali, their combined spend would reach £457m, leaving them only one more reasonably solid signing away from breaking the half-a-billion-pound mark in a single transfer window.
