Vedanta shares surged over 3 percent in early trade, a day after the company's net-zero investments crossed 1 billion dollars. The mining major stated the firm had invested more than 1 billion dollars in net-zero transition initiatives over the past five years. The company is also focusing on renewable energy, lower-carbon fuels, energy efficiency and technology-led interventions.
As part of this transition, the Group's renewable energy utilisation increased 52 percent year-on-year to 4 billion units (400 crore units) in FY2025-26, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 3 crore Indian households. Experts believe Vedanta’s increased focus on renewable energy is strategically positive for the company over the long term, particularly as energy-intensive metals businesses face rising pressure to reduce emissions. Vedanta’s target of 2.5 GW of round-the-clock renewable capacity by 2030 could help the Group reduce dependence on conventional power and potentially improve energy-cost efficiency .
However, analysts will also watch the capital expenditure involved in building renewable capacity and whether the investments translate into measurable cost savings and stronger cash flows. Experts believe this energy transition is likely to benefit Vedanta as copper, aluminium, zinc and other metals are critical to renewable generation, transmission, storage and electrification. While the share price uptick suggests investors are responding positively analysts feel sustained gains will depend on earnings, commodity prices and how the company’s .
