Right way to take bath in monsoon

During monsoon, there is a sudden drop in temperature, making one feel cold, while in the sun one experiences sweltering heat. In such a situation, the question arises that what type of water should one take bath with during the rainy season?

If you are also confused on this topic, then get the right information from the expert. Dr. Ganesh Vishwanathan, Consultant, Internal Medicine at KIMSHEALTH, Thiruvananthapuram, told which water is more beneficial for bathing in the rain.

Benefits and disadvantages of bathing with hot water

Benefit:

Taking a bath with warm water after getting wet in the rain will give you a good experience. It is helpful in removing dirt, sweat and oil accumulated on the body.

Loss:

However, bathing in hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils. Bathing with extremely hot water can damage the skin's protective layer, causing redness, dryness and irritation. The risk of eczema may also increase. Additionally, showering with hot water can open the hair cuticles, causing more frizz and hair loss.

Benefits of bathing with cold water

Taking bath with cold water in hot and sticky weather gives a refreshing experience. Taking bath with cold water improves blood circulation in the body for some time.

Loss:

However, there is a sudden change in temperature during rains. If you take a bath with cold water, the body temperature may drop for some time, which may affect the immune system. Cold water does not remove dirt and oil from the skin properly, which can increase the risk of acne and fungal infections in humid weather.

Importance of bathing with lukewarm water

It is best to take bath with lukewarm water during the rainy season. It is neither very hot nor very cold. Bathing with lukewarm water removes dirt from the skin and also maintains the protective layer of the skin, which prevents dryness and makes you feel comfortable.

Things to keep in mind while bathing

  • Don't stay in the shower too long – taking long showers dries out the skin. A 10-minute shower daily is enough.
  • Don't forget to take bath after getting wet in the rain. If the doctor has prescribed any anti-bacterial or anti-fungal soap, use it.
  • Use moisturizer only when the skin is slightly wet. This keeps the skin moisturized for a long time.
