Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a big decision regarding the pitch of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. After the ODI match between Pakistan and Australia in June, the demerit point given under the 'unsatisfactory' rating given to the pitch has been removed by the ICC after an appeal. This will also affect the ratings of the venues hosting upcoming international cricket matches including India.
Gaddafi Stadium now has zero demerit points in its account
The Gaddafi Stadium pitch was rated 'unsatisfactory' after the third men's ODI between Pakistan and Australia on June 4. Upon appeal by the Pakistan Cricket Board, the ICC Appeals Panel reviewed the match footage, the match referee's report and the captains' official comments. The panel considered that there was no excessive unevenness or unusual spin in the pitch. After this the demerit point of Gaddafi Stadium was removed. Now this ground has zero demerit points in its account.
Why is this decision of ICC important for India?
ICC's pitch rating and demerit point system impacts the match venues of all international teams. India will also have to keep an eye on the condition of these pitches and the ICC rating if there is a situation of playing on Pakistan's grounds in future. In such a situation, getting relief from demerit points for Gaddafi Stadium is considered important from cricket point of view.
Three demerit points remain intact on Canadian soil
The ICC also ruled on two cases to the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground in King City, Toronto. The demerit point for the 'unsatisfactory' rating given for the match between America and Netherlands on June 8 was removed.
However, the three demerit points imposed under the 'unfit' rating for the match between Canada and Netherlands on June 16 will remain intact. The appeal panel considered that the pitch condition in that match was dangerous. After the decision, Gaddafi Stadium has zero points in its account, while Maple Leaf Cricket Ground has three demerit points in its account.
