The Indian two wheeler market has witnessed a historic change in July 2026. For the first time, TVS Motor Company has overtaken Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, which has been at the top position in the country for a long time, to become the number one in monthly scooter sales. TVS's huge success is attributed to its 'iQube' series of electric scooters, which is currently the best-selling e-scooter in the country.
Major change in market position of TVS and Honda
TVS has registered a robust growth of 40 percent, selling as many as 2,56,675 scooters in July 2026 as compared to 1,83,607 units in July 2025. Due to this, the market share of TVS has increased from 28.46% to 32.15%. On the other hand, Honda's sales fell by 12 percent to 2,33,337 units from 2,65,587 units, despite the popular 'Activa' model. As a result, Honda's market share has directly dropped from 41.17% to 29.23%.

Performance of electric scooters and other major companies
Bajaj sold 48,684 units at a record high of 301% driven by its 'Chetak' range driven by growing demand for electric vehicles. Apart from this, Suzuki remained at the third position with 1,20,998 units (up 28%), while Hero MotoCorp sold 61,347 units on the back of its 'Vida' range. E-scooter maker Athar Energy recorded a 106% increase at 31,044 units while River Mobility reported a 226% increase.

Sales and current trends across the market
A total of 7,98,190 scooters were sold in July 2026 across the country, which is 24% higher than 6,45,022 units in the same month last year. In India, the demand for electric scooters is growing faster than conventional petrol scooters. While Indian companies like TVS and Bajaj have been making big gains in the e-scooter segment with timely aggressive moves, Honda's sales have been affected as the electric segment is yet to take hold.
