Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, has shared new details about the ongoing investigation into the actress’s death at age 36. She confirmed that a narcotics investigator has been assigned to the case.

Speaking to NBC News, Vogel said she is not certain where the investigation currently stands. She noted that the involvement of a narcotics investigator suggests authorities likely have outstanding questions they’re working to answer.

Panettiere was found dead in Greenville on Sunday. According to a police report, her on-off partner Brian Hickerson was present at the time.

Vogel did not hold back her feelings about Hickerson’s presence at the scene. She said the family had long hoped Panettiere would distance herself from him, expressing concern that he had a difficult influence on her over the years.

She confirmed that Panettiere and Hickerson remained together at the time of her death, saying she had suspected as much all along. Vogel described her daughter as an enormously talented performer, while acknowledging that growing up in the entertainment industry brought its own difficult pressures.

Separate investigations are currently being carried out by Greenville Police and the coroner’s office, according to TMZ. Authorities have not yet released official findings regarding the cause of death.

Vogel’s latest comments follow her earlier public remarks addressing her daughter’s unexpected passing. The family has remained engaged with media outlets as the investigation continues to unfold.
