Pakistan dismiss Jordan Cox and Joe Root in quick succession in first Test vs England

England were 198 for 2 and cruising. By 202 for 4, both set batters Jordan Cox and Joe Root were gone, and even DRS couldn’t save them. The host nation has taken a lead of over 30 on Day 2 of the first Test in Leeds.

Cox departed for 73

Jordan Cox was caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan off Ali Usman for 73 from 100 balls with 14 fours. The score was 198 when the third wicket fell.

He challenged it, but it didn’t go in his favor.

Root was dismissed for 66

England Test captain Joe Root was lbw to Khurram Shahzad for 66 from 112 balls with 10 fours, at 4-202.

He reviewed as well, but the decision of the on-field umpire was upheld. Neither decision was overturned.

The stand reached 150

The third-wicket partnership was of 150 from 206 balls, with Cox on 73 and Root on 62. England’s 200 were completed in 270 balls.

Every bowler claimed a wicket

Ali Usman has 1 for 23, Khurram Shahzad 1 for 64, Mohammad Abbas 1 for 50 and Mohammad Ali 1 for 53, four bowlers getting a wicket each.

Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence were in the middle.

Where it stands

England were 202 for 4 from 44.5 overs against Pakistan’s 171. The host nation are in the driving seat, considering their bowling and batting in the ongoing match.
