Aakash Chopra, the former India batter, took to his YouTube channel and named his top ten IPL franchises from 2021 to 2026. In the seasons given by Aakash, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won the title twice, while Gujarat Titans have won it once. The 48-year-old said that his standings were based on win percentage and also playoff qualifications.
He placed Mumbai Indians last, with the five-times winners making the playoffs just twice. MI made it to the final four in 2023 under Rohit Sharma and 2025 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. In three editions (2022,2024, and 2026), the team was ordinary.
He placed Sunrisers Hyderabad at nine and Punjab Kings at eight. The only reason SRH made it to nine, as per the cricketer-turned-commentator, is that they played the final once. Speaking about PBKS, he said that Shreyas Iyer’s side has a better win percentage than SRH thanks to their resurgent form in the last few years.
He placed Lucknow Super Giants at seven, which is a surprising choice considering they haven’t made it to the playoffs for the past three seasons. LSG finished bottom of the table in 2026 and also traded Rishabh Pant in exchange for Kuldeep Yadav.
At number six, Aakash named CSK, who, like Mumbai, have won the title five times. Their last trophy came in 2023 under MS Dhoniafter which they have failed to make it to the playoff stages. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side endured a tough 2026 campaign, finishing eighth.
At five is Aakash Chopra’s former team, Kolkata Knight Riders, who finished runners-up in 2021 and won the title in 2024. Three-time winners had a bad start to the season this year before mounting a comeback to make a case for themselves to make it to the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans named top IPL side in last five years
Ex-India batter named Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals at number four and three. Royals made it to the final in 2022 and have been a constant fixture in the playoffs. Delhi, on the other hand, made it to the top three just based on their win percentage over the last few years, but haven’t been able to make the knockout stages on a consistent basis.
Two-time winner RCB were placed second for their amazing form in this decade and a good win percentage. Finally, Gujarat Titans were placed at the top because of their superlative form, where the side won the title in their debut season and also made it to the final twice. Titans have made it to the playoffs consistently, missing the knockouts just once in 2024 when they finished eighth.
