Bugatti Veyron Turns 20, and the Brand Has Rebuilt This Example to Be Better Than Ever

It may be difficult to believe, but the Bugatti Veyron has now completed 20 years. When it first arrived, it completely changed the performance car playbook, with more than 1000 horsepower and a top speed beyond 250 miles per hour serving as the headline numbers that captured worldwide attention. But time has moved on, with the Chiron and now the Tourbillon taking over its place in showrooms—and Bugatti appears to recognise that even its original 21st-century hypercar can benefit from a thoughtful refresh.

On Thursday, Bugatti gave a glimpse of what that looks like with the La Maison Pur Sang Veyron 20 Years. The project was developed through Bugatti’s La Maison Pur Sang certification and restoration programme, which can either preserve cars exactly as they left the factory or reinterpret them for the modern day.

This Veyron wears a two-tone paint finish drawn from other models: the Rouge Rembrandt red comes from the Tourbillon, paired with the Chiron’s Petrol Blue to create a striking combination. Inside, Magnolia leather gives the cabin a distinctly different character from what buyers could get when the Veyron was new. There is also bespoke Mocassin stitching on the steering wheel and gear selector, a 20 Years of Veyron emblem placed between the seats, and a Côte de Genève finish on the centre console inspired by high-end mechanical watches.

One subtle but significant update is visible at the corners of this refreshed Veyron, where the car’s classic “Machiavelli” wheel design has been revised. The front wheels now measure 20 inches in diameter, while the rear wheels are 21 inches in diameter. This allows the Veyron to use tyres in the Chiron’s sizes, while still preserving the classic Veyron appearance.

Another change that may not be obvious at first glance is the addition of new three-dimensional mesh elements on the front, side, and rear air intakes. The idea behind this update is to give the car a more contemporary look without dramatically changing the Veyron’s instantly recognisable shape and design. No doubt other Bugatti owners will take their own reimagined Veyrons in many different directions, but this first one-off example of what the company can achieve with its modern classic certainly provides an encouraging starting point.
