Rajkumar Santoshi-directed Batwara 1947 opened to a moderate response on its first day and saw an impressive rise on the first Saturday (Day 2); however, thereafter, the partition-era film showed a downward trend throughout the first week, except for a Tuesday rise, failing to record a decent Week 1 total. The Sunny Deol starrer wrapped its Week 1 on a disappointing note below the 35 crore net milestone. According to the Sacnilk data, on First Thursday (Day 7), the film, also starring Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol and Kanikka Kapur, recorded 1.35 crore net across 5930 shows with just 8 percent occupancy. Day 7 saw a 10 percent drop in collections compared to Wednesday (Day 6). Overseas, the film earned 50 lakhs on Day 7. Batwara 1947 Day-wise Net Box Office Collection Day 1 (First Friday): 5.75 crore Day 2 (First Saturday): 13.50 crore Day 3 (First Sunday): 7.25 crore Day 4 (First Monday): 2 crore Day 5 (First Tuesday): 2.25 crore Day 6 (First Wednesday): 1.50 crore Day 7 (First Thursday): 1.35 crore -Total India Net Collections: 33.60 crore -Total India Gross Collections: 39.87 crore -Total Overseas Gross Collections: 7.75 crore -Total Worldwide Gross Collection: 47.62 crore Verdict Batwara 1947, released with high hopes, has failed at the box office, clashing with the sequel to the 2007 cult classic Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, which has successfully crossed the 100 crore milestone within the first week. At the current pace, even a 50 crore net milestone looks difficult for the partition drama.
