PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: The central government has introduced a major plan to boost its ambitious 'PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana' (Free Electricity Scheme). To support this, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a special digital tool called 'Get Solar in 60 Secs'. Through this interactive platform, citizens across the country can now understand the complete economics of installing a rooftop solar plant in just one minute.
Since the scheme's inception, over 50 lakh (5 million) households have become capable of generating their own electricity. This new digital tool will make the process of installing a solar system even easier.
How does the 'Get Solar in 60 Secs' tool work?
Using this tool is extremely simple. Users only need to enter a few basic details:
Step 1: Enter your name and phone number, and select your state and district.
Step 2: Use the sliders to input your previous month's electricity bill amount and sanctioned load.
Step 3: The tool will then instantly provide a detailed breakdown tailored to your home, including the appropriate solar plant capacity (kW), total installation cost, government subsidy, and available bank loan options along with interest rates.
The tool will also display an estimate of the savings you can achieve over a lifetime.
Direct contact with vendors via WhatsApp and the 'SUNtosh' AI chatbot
The platform also displays a list of certified vendors registered under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Users can initiate the solar panel installation process by contacting vendors directly via WhatsApp or phone calls.
Additionally, the government recently launched a WhatsApp-based AI chatbot named 'SUNtosh'. This chatbot provides users with real-time information regarding subsidies, the application process, and solutions to common issues, directly on WhatsApp.
A scheme that saves money and benefits the environment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme on February 29, 2024. Its objective is to install solar systems on the rooftops of 10 million households and provide them with up to 300 units of free electricity per month, aiming to achieve a rooftop solar capacity of 30 GW by the 2026-27 financial year. Over its lifetime, this scheme will generate 1,000 billion units of clean power and reduce CO2 emissions by 720 million tonnes.
