So, what is this new Map View feature? Google Photos has rolled out a new feature in its app called Map View. Some of you might see it as 'Places'. This feature will completely change how you search for your photos.

Until now, we used to search for photos by date or by people's faces. From now on, you can search for photos based on the location. All the places on Earth where you've taken pictures will show up as small heat points on a Google Map.

How does the feature work? Check out these 3 magic tricks

1. Automatic Location Tagging: When you take a photo with your location turned on, the GPS data of that place gets attached to each picture. Google uses this information to arrange your photos on the map. Even if you take photos with the location off, Google can often guess the place from your location history.

2. Understand Your Memory Density with a Heat Map: On the map, you'll notice that some areas are brighter or darker. This means you've taken the most photos there. For example, the area around your home or office will look the darkest, while your travel destinations will be scattered around. It looks really cool!

3. Get a Whole Trip's Album in One Click: Let's say you go to the map and tap on Digha's sea beach. Instantly, all your photos and videos taken in Digha will appear together in a grid. You no longer need to remember the exact dates.

How to enable it?

• First, update your Google Photos app from the Play Store.
• Open the app and go to the 'Search' option at the bottom.
• Scroll down a bit, and you'll find an option called 'Places', with 'View Map' written next to it.
• Click on that, and your map of memories will open up.
