To fill vacant seats, Delhi University (DU) has permitted three additional colleges to conduct merit-based admissions using Class 12 marks. These colleges are Shyam Lal College, Rajdhani College, and Zakir Husain Delhi College.
DU UG Admission: While the undergraduate (UG) admission process at DU is primarily conducted through CUET, seats remain vacant in some colleges. To fill these vacancies, the university has authorized three more colleges—Shyam Lal College, Rajdhani College, and Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening)—to offer admission based on Class 12 marks. This provides another opportunity for students who did not secure a seat during the CUET-based admission process. Previously, Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College had also been granted permission to fill vacant seats based on Class 12 marks. However, this procedure is not part of the regular CUET admission process; rather, it is a special measure adopted specifically to fill vacant seats.
Applications Open for These Courses at Shyam Lal College
Shyam Lal College has invited applications for admission to three undergraduate programs based on Class 12 marks: B.Sc. Physical Science with Chemistry, B.Sc. Physical Science with Electronics, and B.A. (Honours) Hindi. The application process began on August 19, and students can apply until today, August 21. The merit list will be released on August 23. Selected students must complete the physical document verification and admission process on August 24 and 25. Fees must also be deposited on the day of physical verification.
Opportunity at Rajdhani College Too
Rajdhani College has also invited applications for admission to several Science and Humanities programs based on Class 12 marks. These include BA (Honours) Sanskrit, BSc (Honours) Physics, BSc (Programme) Physical Science with Chemistry, BSc (Programme) Applied Physical Science with Industrial Chemistry, and BA (Programme) Sanskrit with History. Applications for these courses can be submitted until 5 PM on August 24. The college will release the merit list on August 25. Document verification and admission confirmation for selected students will take place on August 27 and 28.
Opportunity at Zakir Husain Delhi College
Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening) has also opened applications for several language and humanities programmes. Opportunities for admission are available here for BA (Honours) Persian, BA (Honours) Sanskrit, and BA (Honours) Urdu. Additionally, one can apply for the BA Programme with combinations such as History or Political Science alongside Arabic, Bengali, Persian, Sanskrit, or Urdu. Online applications began on August 19 and will continue until August 23.
Why is admission based on Class 12 marks?
The standard procedure for undergraduate admission at Delhi University involves CUET scores followed by seat allotment through the CSAS portal. However, as seats remained vacant in some colleges even after the regular admission rounds, specific colleges have been granted permission to fill these vacancies by admitting students based on merit derived from Class 12 marks. This means that students who did not secure admission to DU through CUET can apply for admission to these colleges and courses based on their Class 12 academic performance.
