Protest against UGC-reservation, RAF action begins at Jantar Mantar; People from the upper caste community were detained

Police have started action against people protesting against caste-based reservation and equity rules of UGC at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Friday. The protesters are being removed from the spot in buses. During this period, information about some people being detained has also come to light. Rapid Action Force (RAF) and central forces were deployed along with Delhi Police on the spot.

Demand for review of reservation system

The protesters were demanding a review of the existing caste-based reservation system, implementation of the 'creamy layer' provision and giving more importance to the economic basis in government schemes. He says that the benefits of government assistance should really reach the needy people. The protesters also raised demands for changes in policies to SC, ST and OBC. He says that financial need should be made the main basis in facilities like scholarship, fee assistance and coaching.

The police had not given permission for the demonstration in advance

Delhi Police had clarified on Thursday that permission has not been given for the demonstration regarding reservation reform at Jantar Mantar on August 21. The police had termed the viral claims on social media regarding permission being granted as false and misleading. Despite this, a large number of people reached Jantar Mantar on Friday. After this, security was increased in the area and barricading was done.

Section 163 BNSS already implemented

According to the police, Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) is in force in New Delhi district. Under this, there is a ban on processions, demonstrations and gatherings of five or more people. The police have appealed to the people not to rely on unconfirmed information to permission for the demonstration and avoid sharing it on social media.
