National Teachers' Award 2026: 48 teachers to be honored; educators selected from across the country—what was the basis for selection?

National Teachers Awards 2026: The Central Government has announced the names of 48 teachers for the National Teachers Awards 2026. These teachers will be honored for their contributions to the field of school education and literacy. The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has released the list of awardees. President Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards upon these teachers on September 5. September 5 is celebrated as Teachers' Day across the country.

Which states and institutions are represented?
The teachers selected for the award hail from various states and Union Territories. Additionally, the list includes teachers from institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Sainik Schools, Model Tribal Schools, and PM SHRI Schools.

The selected teachers include J. Prakash Rao from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rajesh Koluri from Andhra Pradesh, Yaku Tame from Arunachal Pradesh, Rajesh Bordoloi from Assam, and Suman Goyal from Delhi. Zafar Alam from the Eklavya Model Residential Schools (under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs) has also been selected.

The list also includes Mahadev Hanmant Shinde (Goa), Nitin Kumar Mahendrakumar Pathak (Gujarat), Anil Kaushik (Haryana), Manjari V. Mahajan (Himachal Pradesh), Mohammad Ayaz Raina (Jammu & Kashmir), and Archana Shukla (Madhya Pradesh). Furthermore, teachers from regions including Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, and Ladakh have been selected for the award.

A total of 48 teachers from various states, Union Territories, and educational organizations across the country have been included in the list for the National Teachers' Award 2026; Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra (including the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti) have the highest representation, with three teachers selected from each. Meanwhile, two teachers each have been selected from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. Additionally, one teacher each from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Ladakh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, and Uttarakhand has secured a place on the list. Among the Union Territories, one teacher each from Andaman & Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, and Delhi has also been included.

Under the institutional and board categories, two teachers from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan have been selected, while one teacher each has been chosen from the CBSE, CISCE, Sainik Schools (under the Ministry of Defence), and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs).
