Nalgonda: Two workers were killed and eight others suffered serious injuries after a fire broke out at Hazelo Pharma at Dothigudem village under Bhoodan Pochampally mandal in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district late on Friday night.
The incident reportedly occurred after a chemical reactor inside the unit exploded, triggering a major fire. The blast, which took place around midnight, frightened residents of nearby Dothigudem and Anthammagudem villages, many of whom rushed out of their homes after hearing the loud sound.
Police and fire personnel were alerted soon after and reached the facility to begin rescue and firefighting operations. Firefighters battled the flames and eventually brought the situation under control. The injured workers were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, as reported by The New Indian Express.
Local residents and labour unions have expressed anger over the accident, pointing out that it was the second major mishap reported at the same unit within three months. They alleged that repeated incidents were the result of the management’s failure to comply with basic safety regulations.
Authorities have not yet established the identities of the two deceased workers. Bhoodan Pochampally police have registered a case and begun investigating the circumstances that led to the explosion and fire.
