DA Hike News: Lakhs of central government employees across the country are currently awaiting the report of the 8th Pay Commission. However, before that, there is anticipation regarding the announcement of the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for July. The government has not yet announced an increase in the DA. The Dearness Allowance is revised twice a year—once in January and again in July.
The government usually announces the January DA hike in March or April, while the July hike is typically announced in September or October. But will the government give a gift to central government employees on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan this time? We spoke to an expert about this; let’s see what they had to say.
What did the expert say about the DA hike?
The hike in Dearness Allowance requires Cabinet approval; the DA increases only after the Cabinet gives its nod. Until the 8th Pay Commission is implemented, DA hikes will continue to be determined under the 7th Pay Commission framework. In April, the Modi government raised the DA by 2 percent, bringing it from 58 percent to 60 percent. Now, there is a possibility of another hike of 2 to 3 percent.
We spoke to Dr. Manjeet Patel, National President of the All India NPS Employees Federation and the National Mission for Old Pension Scheme Bharat, regarding the DA hike. He suggested that if the government intends to make the announcement in the first week of September, it should do so on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan itself.
Dr. Manjeet Patel stated, "Given the festive season—especially Raksha Bandhan and Onam—the government should release employees' salaries a day or two early. Furthermore, if the government is planning a DA hike for September, the announcement should be made by the end of August, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. Even if the announcement is scheduled for October, we urge the government to implement it as soon as possible." How much could the Dearness Allowance increase?
The Modi government at the Centre had raised the Dearness Allowance (DA) by 2 percent in March-April. It is likely that the government will announce another hike of 2 percent, or at most 3 percent, this time as well. Based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) trends, the DA could be increased by 3 percent. If a 3 percent hike is implemented, it will rise to 63 percent of the basic salary.
