My jaw dropped as soon as I walked into the ‘$100,000-a-week’ luxury suite on board the world’s biggest cruise ship.

I’ve done seven cruises in three years and for the majority of them, I’ve gone for an inside cabin. I always said it was just ‘a place to stay’ – but now that I’ve seen the magnificence of the Ultimate Family Townhouse, I may have just changed my mind.

I got to check out the epic suite on Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas, and when I say my jaw hit the floor, that’s an understatement.

I knew luxury rooms existed, but never in my wildest dreams did I think they were as luxurious as this three-storey palace with heaps of wow factor. It’s described as “much more than a place to stay”, and it’s easy to see why.

It sleeps up to eight guests, has three full bathrooms, its own dining room and kitchenette, a cinema with a large day-bed, an in-suite slide, wrap-around terrace with hot tub, direct access to Surfside right from the private patio and its own popcorn machine.

With all that said, it does come with a hefty price tag. It is reported that the room costs between $75,000 and $100,000 per week (approximately £55k-£73k). That’s around £9.2K per person for the sailing when divided by eight.

But it can reach as high as $150,000 (approximately £110,000), depending on the time of year. As that is a life-changing amount of money to me, I could never imagine staying in this room, but I can admire its brilliance.

It is the only suite of its kind on the icon-class ship and includes everything on the ship, meaning you do not pay for add-ons.

As soon as you approach the room, you’re instantly met with bright and bold colours, a hopscotch on the floor and a fancy flamingo post box – an upgrade from the usual grey slot fixed to the outside of your cabin door.

While everything in the room is done to an incredibly high standard, your attention is immediately drawn to the slide in the middle of the main living space.

It was shut off when I toured the room, but the stairs were just as cool. Yes they may look ordinary, but they aren’t just any old stairs. They’re piano stairs!

As guests walked up each step, a tune played out. I could have spent a long while playing on the stairs if it was my room – and I bet people do.

The rooms were themed and luxurious and the master bedroom had a luxurious en-suite bathroom with luxury products from Malin + Goetz.

The shark-themed cinema was another incredibly cool feature, complete with its own large day bed and comfy chairs – and of course two large shark plushies too.

Then in the dining room, there’s a giant interactive table which you can play a number of games on. I thought this was really cool and a fun way to keep the little ones entertained while the adults get ready for dinner.

The room is also decorated with multiple Squishmallow chairs, adding another element of fun for the children.

There’s even The Harry Potter and Hunger Games book collection too, perfect for the reading nooks looking out at the sea view.

While I think the price tag is absolutely crazy, the room is done to such a high standard and I can imagine some families wanting their own private space would have the holiday of a lifetime here.
