In Maharashtra, just before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Students' Echo' program to be held in Pune, a heated argument and fierce fighting took place between the workers of National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the hostel premises of College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technological University late on Friday night, after which the police reached the spot, controlled the situation and also detained some people.
This uproar started over the dialogue program with Rahul Gandhi. NSUI alleges that ABVP members beat up the girl students who wanted to be a part of the program and kept them confined in the hostel. On the other hand, ABVP vehemently denied these allegations and accused Congress workers of forcibly forcing students to attend the program.
Vijay Wadettiwar's campus visit
After the matter escalated, Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar reached the campus late at night and took stock of the situation. He alleged that the girl students were being forced to give statements of their own free will by threatening them. They have demanded the police administration to take immediate strict action against the culprits and warned that if this is not done then they will stage a protest.
As soon as information about the uproar was received, heavy police force was deployed on the spot. The police dispersed the crowd gathered on the campus and detained some ABVP workers to calm the situation. In view of Rahul Gandhi's program, strict security arrangements have been made in and around the campus so that no untoward incident happens.
